2015 Michael J. Quill Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the Michael J. Quill Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will offer fifteen (15) college-bound dependents of TWU members with a scholarship worth $4800.00. This scholarship will be paid out, per year in the amount of $1200.00 to winners who continue to be eligible over their four (4) year course.

Union Benefit Planners has again gladly agreed to sponsor an additional eight (8) scholarships worth $2500.00 each. In addition, we have two new sponsors, who have requested to give to this cause. M3 Technology will sponsor five (5) scholarships worth $2000.00 each and Vincent Pitta from Pitta & Giblin LLP will sponsor two (2)
scholarships worth $2500.00 each. All of the above sponsored scholarships will be paid out in the first year, as a single scholarship. Please visit for an application; you can also find additional information, including eligibility requirements there.

The deadline for all applications will be April 17, 2015; no applications postmarked after this date will be accepted - there will be no exceptions. Winners of the scholarships will be determined by a public drawing to be held in May. Winners will be notified by mail 5-7 days thereafter.

Job Requirements:

Must be able to type 35 wpm with accuracy, have good organizational skills, excellent communication skills and effective written skills. Computer literate with the following software: Excel, Microsoft Office and Power Point. Ability to take accurate notes and minutes of all Union meetings, negotiations, conferences and transcribe for permanent and legal records. Maintains confidentiality of department information. Presents a
positive image to the public and takes responsibility for identifying, communicating and generating solutions to problems related to the smooth running of the office, answer phones and acts as a receptionist when needed.

Ability to work a flexible schedule; may include nights, holidays and weekends. Uses judgment in carrying out assignments with minimum supervision. Sets up and maintains files, writes correspondences and Special Bulletins. Should be knowledgeable of State and Federal laws pertaining to Unions.

The selection process will be as follows:

Members must submit I.) Resume and 2) Cover letter to the Executive Board.

Members will be scheduled for an interview with President, Vice-President, Treasurer and selected members of the Executive Board Chairs.

Submit documents by: January 16, 2015
Expected dates of interviews: January 23th - 26th, 2015
Expected date of appointment: February 12, 2015

**Per Local 250A By-laws, Article VII, Vacancies, Seaion 2, "In the event that a vacancy occurs in the office of Executive Vice-President, Financial Secretary-Treasurer, or Recording Secretary between eleaions, the Local Executive Board shall appoint one of its members to fill the position for the unexpired term. If no member of the Executive Board accepts the vacant Position, the President shall have the authority to appoint from among the membership, subject to the approval of the Local Executive Board."
